What Neon Scratch is

A scratch-style game played only with virtual Bolts. Nine marks sit under a sheet of neon foil in 3 rows of 3. You clear the foil with a finger or the cursor, read the rows left to right, and a row of three matching marks settles the card. No real money is involved at any point, and nothing here is a draw for anything.

One card, in order

Set the stake with the two buttons. It is a count of virtual Bolts placed on this one card, and nothing on the page raises it for you.
Press Take a new card. The stake leaves your virtual balance and all 9 marks are drawn on the spot, before you touch the foil.
Drag across the foil to clear it. Where you start, how fast you go and how neatly you cover the sheet change nothing whatever: the marks underneath were fixed the moment the card was taken.
Past 55% cleared the card finishes itself and the rest of the foil goes at once. If dragging is awkward, press Uncover the card — or Enter on the foil itself — and read the whole card straight away. The result is identical either way.
Three matching marks in one row multiply the stake by the figure in the table below, and that lands on your virtual balance in this browser and no further. Two rows matching at once settle on the larger multiplier. No matching row ends the card with the stake spent.

Multiply each chance by its own multiplier, add the seven together and a long run of cards returns 95.89% of what was staked in virtual Bolts. That is a pacing figure and nothing else: a balance that empties in a minute is dull, so the table is set high. A stake of 100 virtual Bolts returns 300 on a row of chevrons and 60,000 on a row of cores.

Any one row comes up as three of a kind about once in 18, and a card holds 3 of them, so 15.91% of cards settle on something and the rest settle on nothing. Most cards are blank. That is what the table above describes, and it is the ordinary case rather than bad luck.

How the marks come up

Every one of the 9 cells is drawn on its own, in your own browser, from a strip of 100 positions holding the seven marks in the proportions listed above. The draws are independent of each other and of every card before them. Nothing is stored between cards and nothing carries over: the card does not know what you staked, what the last one held, or how long you have been playing. A long run of nothing does not ripen into anything, and a good card uses nothing up.

The foil is a cover, not a mechanism. All nine marks exist the instant the card is taken, so scratching slowly, scratching in a pattern or uncovering the card with one button produce exactly the same result. There is nothing here to get good at, and with no money anywhere near the game the numbers cannot have been set for anything but pacing.

A free allowance of Bolts arrives every three hours, and a balance that runs down is topped up at no charge. Playing costs nothing and buying is never required.

The stake is virtual. Bolts are counters kept in this browser. They cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for money, goods or vouchers, traded, gifted or moved to another player, and nothing that happens on these cards produces a prize.

Clearing a card here clears virtual foil off virtual marks, and the hand that does it decides nothing — the same card read with one button reads the same.
